About Dana Bright

Dana Bright has 40 years of experience in the sport driving world. She is currently the Vice President of the American Driving Society. As former ADS Mid-Atlantic Regional Director she and a group of Mid-Atlantic ADS members created the American Driving Society’s Mid-Atlantic Recreational Drive at Fair Hill, Maryland. She is currently the chair of the ADS Pleasure Driving Committee, and a former chair of the Education Committee during which time she spearheaded the creation of the online ADS Education Library, and created two videos about harnessing that are included as a resource for new drivers. She is currently on the Driven Dressage and Safety Committees. She was the recipient of the ADS President’s Award in 2006. She has earned the Bronze, Silver and Gold ADS Driven Dressage Medals. She competes in Combined Driving and Pleasure Driving competitions with home breds, as singles, pairs, a unicorn and tandem. She was mentored and taught to drive a four in hand by one of the most elegant drivers, Mrs. Alberta “Mickie” Bowen of Unionville, Pennsylvania.
She has held Combined Driving, Driven Dressage and Pleasure Driving licenses with the ADS since 1997. She has judged and been the technical delegate for competitions in every ADS region, and in Canada. She finds it especially enjoyable to return to venues periodically and see the progress drivers are making with their driving animals. Her previous experience as a working student for Bruce Davidson Sr, graduating from the Instructor’s Course at Morven Park in VA, earning a British Horse Society Assistant Instructor’s certificate in high school, and coaching United States Pony Club teams gave her teaching skills easily transferred from riding to driving. She has taught clinics to students of all levels and ages across the USA for various driving clubs and horse expos. She believes good driving skills make for safer partnerships between horse and driver and will allow them to take part in the great variety of activities the driving world offers.
