An event celebrating carriage driving traditions and the historic Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm.
The Picnic Classic will be held June 6, 2026 at Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury, Massachusetts. The event will coincide with Historic New England’s Open House day.
The picnic contest/class is open to the public! Bring your china and prepare an elegant luncheon.
The driving competition will be split into two divisions: small pony/VSE and large pony/horse.

Picnic Competitors
Those participating in the picnic competition should bring a small table (like a card table). Judging will begin at noon, and the judge may ask about your menu (and probably will sample some!) and your setting. Please refer to the photos on this page for reference.

9:00 Three cones classes (driving obstacle course)
11:00 – 12:30 Picnic class (contest) with judging beginning at noon
As part of Historic New England’s Open House day, free tours of the property will begin at 11:00 AM.
1:00 Timed obstacles followed by pace (driving obstacle course followed by cross-country course)
